Hey,

Sorry for yet another email. There were a few things I forgot to mention about Saturday's trip to Buddhapadipa Temple and also I will give the details for the meditation this Monday at ULU.

Extra Info for the Temple Trip

As we will be offering food to the Sangha (the Buddhist monks (there are no nuns in Thai Buddhism)), I forgot to let you know that you are more than welcome to bring food to offer to the Sangha also. If you do wish to give to the Sangha at the temple during the group ceremony that we will participate in/observe, then bring food that will keep for a few days as the monks do not eat after about 10 past Midday!

'Giving' is a fundamental concept in Buddhism and I have found some good resources if you wish to learn more about the Buddhist concept of giving and also preview some of the types of chanting you might hear on Saturday.

A great selection of essays on Giving edited by Bhikkhu Bodhi-

A good example of the Pali language chanted beautifully:

Similar Pali chanting to the ritual we will see on Saturday:

Also, bring some food for yourselves too as we will have a picnic outside if it is sunny enough!

Monday 22nd October-Meditation session, led by Thai monk: Ajahn Sangthong @ ULU, Malet St.

We are very lucky to have such an accomplished and experienced meditation master to lead us in meditations. Ajahn Sangthong has practiced for many years as a monk, in the forests of Thailand, in village temples and now finally in Buddhapadipa temple in London. ULUBUDA seeks to provide for the wide variety backgrounds, religious affiliations and personalities of our members. Therefore the meditation taught will be a simple concentration meditation and is applicable to everyone from all walks of life.

For the Buddhists among us there is a short (5 mins) chanting session in Pali, where there is an opportunity to take refuge, and take the 5 precepts. Participation in this is completely optional and a lot of our members choose to just sit and listen to the chanting of the beautiful ancient Indian language of Pali! After the meditation, Ajahn Sangthong will give a short discourse on a topic of Buddhism and also can answer your questions about any issues and problems that may have arisen in your life.

Date: Monday 22nd October
Time: 6:30pm
Place: ULU, Malet Street (http://www.ulu.co.uk/content/index.php?page=13)
Room: 2B

Reminder: This will be the last day for signing the membership forms to be a full member of the association:).

Best wishes,
Alastair
